White fillings are a successful way to restore a damaged tooth back to its natural look, function and shape.
White fillings are composite resin fillings that are made of a mixture of plastics and glass material. This kind of filling is used to replace old amalgam fillings, repair decayed teeth, improve the appearance of poorly shaped teeth or close spaces in between front teeth.
White composite fillings aren’t suitable for large restorations due to material failure. Crowns serve better on back teeth in these situations, veneers or crowns on front teeth.
What are Ceramic Inlays and Onlays?
Ceramic inlays and onlays can protect your smile from further damage or decay. They can be made out of a durable ceramic restoration which has high strength and durability.
The average life span of a ceramic inlay and onlay is 10-15 years where as resin lasts roughly 5-7 years.
Ceramic Inlays and Onlays are highly durable and ideal for large restorations for a high load area such as at the back of a patient’s mouth. These are a great alternative to a crown as they are less destructive with a similar life span. They can be made in house with a digital scan during your visit. Ask your dentist for more details.
It is common for adult’s molars to develop deep fissures or grooves on the tooth. Unfortunately, these grooves are traps for food to be caught in making brushing food away become difficult. An inlay or onlay can repair the damaged tooth by flattening the surface ensuring there are no grooves for food to get trapped in.
Through use of inlays and outlays we are able to repair tooth decay and cracks or teeth where the damage has extended out over the cusp of the tooth.
